Award-winning playwright MarcusGardley's latest play is titled "X." It tells the story of the assassination of Malcolm X, both the story we think we know, and the details seldom shared. Shakespeare's "Julius Caesar" provides the framework for Gardley to deepen our understanding of this complex, compelling figure in the tumultuous era of the 1960s.

This edition of Public Radio Presents features an interview with Gardley and Kyle Bass, associate artistic director at Syracuse Stage. We also hear from Malcom X himself, from his speech "The Ballot or the Bullet," from April, 1964.

The New York City-based The Acting Company is performing both Shakespeare's "Julius Caesar" and Marcus Gardley's "X" at three central New York locations in the coming weeks:  at SUNY Oswego's Waterman Theatreon March 27 and 28; at Le Moyne College's Coyne Center for the Performing Arts on March 30 and 31; and at Hamilton College's Wellin Hall on April 1 and 2.
